Police issue warning as ice and snow plague north-east roads

Police have issued warnings for all north-east roads today as freezing conditions grip the region.
A Met Office yellow “be aware” warning for ice and snow is in place for the north-east for today and tomorrow.
The plummeting temperatures have closed several Aberdeenshire roads, with police warning of “hazardous driving conditions” on the the B979 Stonehaven to Netherley road in particular.
They added that all routes were being affected by black ice and many by snow.
The A939 Ballatar to Tomintoul road was closed at Cock Bridge this morning due to the weather.
The A93 Braemar to Blairgowrie road is closed at Glenshee due to drifting snow, as is the B974 Banchory to Fettercairn “Cairn O Mount” road which is also affected by black ice.
Further snow fall of up to 1.5in is expected in lower areas of Aberdeenshire overnight tonight with around 3in expected on higher ground.
