North-east drivers warned to expect wet and icy roads tonight

North-east motorists have been warned of wet and icy road conditions this evening, with further wintry showers forecast to hit the region.

Ice and frost is expected to affect roads in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire tonight.

Aberdeen saw a brief spell of snow this afternoon, while other parts of the north-east were hit with sleet.

The B974 Cairn O’ Mount road remains closed due to snow and ice.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokeswoman said: “Aberdeenshire Council’s 32 gritters have been out over the past 24 hours as snow continues to fall across the region.

“All routes were treated with 10g of salt per square metre at 3.30pm yesterday afternoon as well as at 5.30am this morning.

“The lowest temperature recorded by the roads service in the last 24 hours was at Fyvie this morning where it reached -5.4ºC.

“Routes will be treated with a further 10g this afternoon and at 5.30am tomorrow morning.”
