Freezing temperatures will endure in the north-east today after icy conditions brought chaos to the region’s streets.
A Met Office yellow warning for ice was in place in Grampian this morning, but has since been lifted.
Temperatures in Aberdeenshire are not expected to crawl above freezing today.
Last night rain landed on roads already affected by black ice and refroze throughout the night.
As commuters from the Aberdeen suburbs and surrounding shire began making their way to work, the road conditions caused several accidents.
Three schools in Aberdeenshire have been closed, with no transport to a further nine.

On the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road a car skidded off the route at the junction near Marshall Trailers.
There has been no reports of any injuries.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said that gritters had been out treating the roads at 5.30am this morning, adding that “treatment levels” had been increased.
He added that the treacherous conditions were caused by the “refreezing” of roads already treated by council workers as a result of the overnight weather.
