Crowds of families, students and revellers are expected to line Aberdeen’s main street this weekend for the annual Torcher parade.
Organised by the Aberdeen Students’ Charities Campaign, about 30 brightly coloured floats will make their way down Union Street tomorrowsat, led by students carrying flame-lit torches.
The event, now in its 126th year, will raise money for nearly 40 charities including Aberdeen Cyrenians, Archway, the Archie Foundation, Balmedie Friendship Club, Give a Greyhound a Home (Gagah) and Simeon Care for the Elderly.
The parade will leave from the Gallowgate at 6.30pm, and proceeds via Upperkirkgate, Schoolhill, Rosemount Viaduct, Skene Street and Carden Place.
At 7.15pm, the parade is halted at the Queen’s Cross roundabout, where the torches are lit.
It will then proceed down Albyn Place and onto Union Street.
Several roads will be affected before, during and after the parade.
They are: Gallowgate, northbound West North Street, Berry Street, Upperkirkgate, Schoolhill, Rosemount Viaduct, Skene Street, Carden Place, Queen’s Cross, Albyn Place, Alford Place, Union Street, Broad Street, Castle Street and King Street.
The right-turn bans from Holburn Street into Willowbank Road and from Rosemount Viaduct to Skene Street will be lifted, for buses only.
