A transport group is reaching out to north-east residents in an effort to improve links between Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen.
The ailing corridor which stretches to Aberdeenshire’s largest town and beyond has been the subject of debate for years.
Now the North East Scotland Transport Partnership (Nestrans) is surveying the public how the network can be improved for local people.
The idea is to show how transport investment could boost employment prospects in the region, as well as supporting the health, leisure and social sectors.
Last night Nestrans director, Derick Murray, said the new questionnaire was an opportunity for north-east residents to “help shape the future of transport in the area”.
He said: “The results of this study will help develop a number of options for improvement to infrastructure and connectivity that will benefit the users of this route.
“Once the initial phase of analysis and engagement has taken place, the data gathered will be used to develop potential options for further investigation which will go back out to consultation later in 2015.”
The scope of the survey has been left open-ended and Nestrans hopes responses will cover everything from upgrading the A90 to reintroducing rail links to the north-east along the Formartine and Buchan Way.
Fraserburgh councillor Ian Tait has campaigned for the busy A90 commuter route to be dualled to the north-east port.
He said: “It will help commercial and industrial businesses across all sectors to transport materials in and finished goods out.
“I will be making sure that the consultants recently appointed by Nestrans will consult Fraserburgh Harbour Board and other agencies in Fraserburgh involved in economic development such as the council and the college.”
Last month the Press and Journal revealed that an ambitious project to reinstate the Aberdeen to Ellon railway line could be packaged in to a proposed £2.9billion City Region deal for the north-east.
The Nestrans online survey is launched today and will run until Friday, May 22.
