Damaged Aberdeenshire bridge set to cause lengthy detours

Two weeks of lengthy detours are looming for commuters while repairs are made to a damaged bridge.
The A957 Crathes to Stonehaven route – or Slug Road – will be closed from Monday, August 31, for two weeks due to essential repairs to the Blairydrine Bridge, near Durris.
The structure needs urgent maintenance as a result of a recent collision.
Last night Stonehaven councillor Raymond Christie said the closure could cause issues for motorists travelling between Deeside and the Mearns.
Drivers will have to take to the B979 Netherley Road to travel from the north to Stonehaven or make the journey along the B9077 Banchory to Aberdeen road onto the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
Labour councillor Mr Christie said: “It will cause a problem for the locals for two weeks but unfortunately things have to be repaired.
“The bridges on the Slug Road, including the other one nearer Stonehaven, are narrow and unfortunately the lorries sometimes catch them.
“And often they say two weeks to repair them and they are fixed quicker.”
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the bridge as will vehicle access to affected properties.
