The effects of last night’s heavy rain are still being felt across the Highlands today.
Rail service between Fort William and Mallaig have been cancelled because of mud and debris on the line at remote Lochailort following the severe downpours.
Network Rail engineers are assessing the problem and taking heavy equipment on site to clear the line.
ScotRail has laid on buses to take passengers from Mallaig to Fort William, where trains are starting and terminating.
A Network Rail spokesman said that it was expected that the line would remain closed for at least the rest of the day.
Earlier rail services between Inverness and Nairn were also disrupted after a track circuit was damaged by a suspected lightning strike.
The severe downpours caused significant flooding, forcing the closure of A9 Inverness-Thurso road at Tain for several hours overnight.
The road has now reopened but householders and businesses in the town are still involved in pumping out water.
