Scotrail has warned that trains travelling south from Aberdeen will be disrupted until Thursday after the derailment of a train in the early hours of this morning.
The engineering train came off the tracks near Dundee at 2.20am this morning.
Trains from Edinburgh and Queen Street to Aberdeen are terminating at Dundee, and services from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Queen Street terminate at Carnoustie.
Replacement buses are transporting passengers between Dundee and Carnoustie, but journey times are slightly longer.
Engineers are currently working on site to get the train and wagons back on the rails, and then to repair the damage to the tracks. Nobody was injured in the incident.
A spokeswoman for ScotRail Alliance said: “We are really sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our customers. We’re working as hard as we can to reopen the line and resume normal service.
“Mutual ticket acceptance is in place on both Virgin East Coast and Cross Country trains.
