Parts of Scotland woke up to huge amounts of snow this morning as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning across the UK.
The warning proved true with snow spreading across Scotland, while large parts of the country have witnessed heavy rain and strong winds as Storm Clodagh crashes in from the Atlantic.
Driving conditions in the Highlands have been described as “horrendous” with the A9 Perth to Inverness road at the Drumtochter pass covered in snow.
Eye witnesses on the A90 described the conditions as an “absolute nightmare” with traffic brought to a complete standstill this afternoon following a number of crashes.
The snow arrived in Aberdeen just in time for the city’s Christmas lights parade, while parts of inland Aberdeenshire have seen six inches of snow this afternoon, with more expected this evening and tomorrow morning.
The A93 Ballater to Perth road at Glenshee is closed due to snow whilst there is a warning out for the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road between Keith and Newtack.
The B974 Cairn O’ Mount road was also closed this morning due to “heavy snow”.
