Two men were rushed to hospital yesterday after a brace of crashes involving lorries on north-east roads.
One collision, involving a silver Mitsubishi which was trailing a horse box and a Renault truck, took place on the B9001 Forgue to Inverurie road, near Rothienorman, just after 11am.
Police, fire and rescue and ambulance services were called to the scene.
The Mitsubishi was propelled into a stone dyke in the front garden of a neighbouring property during the incident, with the driver’s side left a crumpled ruin.
Stones from the dyke were scattered following the impact of the crash.
An ambulance took a man in his 70s to hospital following the crash, but his injuries were not described as serious.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was left trapped and had to be cut free from the vehicle by firefighters, who were called to the scene from Turriff and Oldmeldrum.
Two others involved were described as “walking wounded”.
The driver of the lorry was uninjured and no animals were believed to be in the horse box.
An ambulance spokesman said: “We took a male in his 70s to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a stable condition. There was another two walking wounded who were discharged on scene.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We got the call at 11.05am. It was a car versus a Renault lorry. Someone was trapped within the 4×4.
“The lorry driver was uninjured. Fire and rescue were at the scene to release driver of the 4×4. The road was closed.”
Elsewhere, an elderly man was taken to hospital in a “stable condition” following a crash on the North Deeside Road at Culter at about 11.40am.
Police and ambulance services were called to the collision between a silver Audi A1 and a Ford Iveco lorry outside the Marks and Spencers BP petrol station at 11am.
The road was partially blocked around the incident.
An ambulance spokesman said the man had not suffered injuries in the crash, but required hospital due to a separate medical matter.
He added: “We took a male into Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a stable condition. He didn’t have injuries from the collision.”
The police spokeswoman added: “It [the report of the incident] came in at 11am. The lorry was moved to the side of the road and traffic was able to pass.”
The B9001 reopened at 2pm and the A93 at 4pm.
