Reports are coming in of a serious crash on the Highland’s busiest road.
Police have confirmed that a woman involved in the collision, between two cars, has died at the scene.
There is slow traffic on the A9 southbound between the B9150 junction in Newtonmore and the A889 junction in Dalwhinnie because of the crash.
Scottish Fire and Rescue service (SFRS) sent three appliances to the scene.
A spokesperson for SFRS confirmed that all passengers had been released from their vehicles upon arrival.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.
Local diversions have been put in place.
Police have described the incident as “a serious road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles”.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that following the crash a woman has sadly died at the scene.
“There are no further details at this time.”
A police statement said: “Drivers are advised that the A9 is closed in both directions at Dalwhinnie due to a serious road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles.
“Local diversions are in place but delays may be encountered.”
