London City Airport has been evacuated and closed after reports of a “chemical incident”.
There were reports that a number of passengers felt unwell, the brigade said.
The alarm was raised at 4.11pm.
Around 500 members of the public and staff were evacuated.
A spokesman for LFB said: “Three fire engines and a range of specialist appliances have been called to reports of a chemical incident at London City Airport this afternoon.
“Around 500 members of the public and staff have been evacuated and there are reports of a number of passengers feeling unwell.”
Twenty six people were treated at London City Airport after suffering from breathing difficulties, London Ambulance Service said. Two patients were taken to hospital.
The cause of the incident is not yet known.
A Flybe flight which was due to leave the Granite City at 4.50pm, with 29 passengers on board, was delayed by 50 minutes and has now been diverted to London Southend.
Meanwhile, a British Airways flight which was due to arrive in Aberdeen at 8.30pm has been cancelled, as has the Flybe flight, which was due to arrive at 9.25pm.
The airport was “declared safe” at around 7.15pm.
