At around 10.30pm people were leaving the Manchester Arena following the Ariana Grande gig when they heard “loud bangs” and an “explosion Emergency services descended on the area including ambulance and police. Armed police cleared the area around the arena, shutting the station, cancelling trains and locking down streets. The public were advised to avoid the area. A spokesman for American singer Ariana Grande, who was performing at the arena, told the BBC she was okay. Greater Manchester Police confirmed a “serious incident” had occurred at the arena at around 11pm. They later confirmed 19 people had been killed in the incident and another 50 injured. At present police are treating it as a “terrorist incident”. Manchester Arena tweeted a statement saying the incident occurred outside the venue in a public place. Police carry out controlled explosion after abandoned clothing found.
