The daring rescue of a drowning boy from a dangerous rip current off a Cornish beach has been captured on camera.
The child’s screams for help were picked up by RNLI lifeguard Joby Wolfenden-Brown’s head-mounted GoPro as he paddled out into the surf at Crooklets beach in Bude.
The lifeguard is heard telling the bodyboarder: “I’m coming buddy, I’m coming mate.”
His GoPro camera then captures the exhausted and terrified boy grabbing the rescue board and clambering onto it, as his bodyboard floats away in the background.
The young lad was then taken back to the beach to be reunited with his parents.
The rescue happened at around 4pm on Tuesday and the RNLI said six people had already been rescued from rips at the popular north Cornwall surfing beach that day.
Chris Wafer, RNLI lifeguard supervisor, said: “Rip currents can be very dangerous so it’s best to swim or bodyboard between the red and yellow flags on an RNLI lifeguarded beach.”
