The largest cruise ship in the world docked in a UK port for the first time yesterday.
Hundreds of people flocked to watch as the enormous Oasis of the Seas arrived in Southampton amid dense fog.
They watched from the city’s Mayflower Park as she made her way up the Southampton Water.
The 1,187ft Royal Caribbean-run boat, launched in 2009, is longer than The Shard in London, weighs in at 225,282 tonnes and is 208ft wide.
The vessel arrived in Southampton to pick up passengers set for a cruise to Vigo, Spain, and Fort Lauderale, in Florida.
Southampton was the only UK stop for the mega-cruiseship, which can accommodate 6,296 passengers, plus a crew of 2,000 crew.
It left UK waters last night.
She features the first ever open air garden at sea Central Park, the first ever beach pool at sea, a zip line, surfing simulators, an aquatheatre for diving shows and more than 20 dining options.
The ship boasts seven “neighbourhoods” home to an array of different activities for children and adults alike.
There is also a boardwalk featuring a carousel, a spa, gym, rockwall, basketball court, boxing ring, ice rink, library and both outdoor and indoor cinemas.
Royal Caribbean are launching another cruise ship of the same size as Oasis of the Seas – Quantum of the Seas – in a few weeks.
