Pictures have emerged on-line that suggest a controversial Alex Samond effigy has in fact been blown-up – despite organisers insisting the plan was never to torch it.
A spectator at the Lewes bonfire celebration last night has claimed that the First Minister dummy was lit with fireworks then “detonated” at the end of the night.
The effigies of the Aberdeenshire East MSP were withdrawn from the event at the last minute after a storm of protest on social media.
The Waterloo Bonfire Society said it had not meant to cause any offence, and that the so-called “tableaux”was only intended to be incorporated into the firework display and not torched.
But pictures have been posted on social media by user, Michael Story, who claims ‘Alex Salmond’ was eventually blown up.
He has posted pictures of the figure apparently before and after the “burst”.
“To be absolutely clear – tonight I saw an effigy of Alex Salmond lit by fireworks then blown up at Lewes,” he said.
They didn’t burn Alex Salmond effigy… They blew it up
