BBC news started with a difference last night when the programme went live on television screens across the country without a presenter in the hotseat.
Rather than opening with a bright bubbly presenter, viewers were greeted with an empty chair as presenter Martine Croxall’s dashed across the studio to take her seat.
The presenter dealt with the situation well, telling viewers: “Good evening and welcome to BBC news. I’m Martine Croxall, it’s 9 o’clock, I’m just going to move back to the, erm, the main set.
“I know this has happened before but here we are. If I sidle in you can pretend that you haven’t noticed.”
