A chicken that was hurled through the serving hatch of a drive-through McDonald’s has been rehomed by an RSPCA inspector and renamed Nugget.
A man was due to be questioned by the animal charity after he came forward and admitted the act at the fast food outlet in Wolviston Services near Billingham, Teesside, on Tuesday.
According to the RSPCA, youths ordered and paid for food but did not collect it and instead threw the live bird through the open hatch.
The hen was not injured and has been taken by an inspector to live with his flock.
A spokeswoman said: “We would like to discourage people from repeating such pranks.
“Chickens are protected animals under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and subjecting them to pranks such as this could be an offence.”
In a separate statement the charity said: “We are not looking for a home for the chicken, as we have one already.
“She is going to join one of our animal welfare officer’s flock of chickens. He has called her Nugget.”
