These robbers are certainly slippery customers…
Police have released CCTV images showing a gang of thieves breaking into a Coventry jewellers where they overcame the window of the shop but were left unprepared for the polished floor inside.
The footage, uploaded on February 12, shows them sliding and falling over on the slippery floor as they take hundreds of thousands of pounds of gold jewellery from the store.
In the minute-long video released by West Midlands police, the men struggle to stay on their feet as they smash cabinets with axes and stuff jewels into canvas bags.
Eventually they are forced to flee by a security device which fills the shop with smoke.
Police believe that although the men were masked and dressed in dark clothing, people will still be able to recognise them from their “distinctive walks”.
A top officer at West Midlands police added that the men had threatened a passer-by with a gun and drove dangerously to make their escape.
Detective Constable Lee Buckler said: “Their new found wealth combined with their unique floor moves will undoubtedly give them away.
“Some may think this is a victimless crime but I want people to be under no illusion. These are dangerous and desperate men who threatened to shoot a man who was passing the store at the time
they raided it.
“The driver of the getaway car also drove dangerously through the streets of Coventry to escape the scene. These men definitely deserve to be behind bars.”
