This is the moment a drink-driver was so drunk he fell off his seat while waiting to be breathalysed in a police station.
Police in Sussex say Robert Hutchinson, 59, was so drunk that an officer had to help him to his feet and hold him up to stop him fallingdown again.
He was nearly five times over the legal drink-drive limit after crashing his Nissan Almera head-on into a Ford Ka driven by a 42-year-old woman.
The crash happened after he was spotted driving his Nissan erratically on the A281 heading towards Horsham, West Sussex, on January 30.
CCTV footage shot at Worthing custody centre has been released by Sussex Police showing him falling off a chair and into a wall as he waits for a breath test.
Chief Inspector Phil Nicholas from Surrey and Sussex roads policing unit, said: “The footage shows just how drunk Hutchinson was, yet he thought that it was acceptable for him to drive in that condition.
“It is vital that we get people who think that it’s ok to drink and drive off the roads.”
Hutchinson, of Fir Tree Close, Plummers Plain, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on February 23, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
He was banned from driving for five years, given an 18-week prison sentence, told to do 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £80 surcharge to the victim who suffered slight injuries.
It emerged that Hutchinson, who escaped uninjured from the crash, had already served a drink-driving ban after being convicted in 2009, a police spokesman said.
