A politician standing for UKIP is to be investigated after claims he gave away sausage rolls in order to gain votes.
Kim Rose, a UKIP candidate standing in Southampton Itchen, is alleged to have tried to influence voters by giving the snacks at a party event featuring snooker star Jimmy White.
Mr Rose has now been told to report to police over allegations of treating because Electoral Commission rules state food and entertainment cannot be provided by candidates to “corruptly influence” votes.
Mr Rose claims Jimmy White is a long term friend and he attended the event to play pool with local youngsters while adults paid £2 and Mr Rose put on a selection of drinks as well as sandwiches and sausage rolls.
Mr Rose said he had been contacted by Hampshire Constabulary’s Economic Crime Unit and asked to report to Romsey police station on Monday.
