An animal charity has launched it’s own cat-ifesto in the run up to this year’s General Election.
Cats Protection is encouraging cat owners to rise up and take a stand on behalf of their cats. A
You Gov poll has identified that 14% of voters will use animal welfare as a factor in determining how they will vote. Forget about the EU, immigration and the Scottish question, it could be the tabby issue that gets the winner past the scratching post.
According to the charity the document takes a moderate position and steers away from demands for increasing availability of mice, or bans on standing when a cat sits on your knee.
Cat owners are being asked to print off a one page summary of the Cat Manifesto ready for discussion with election candidates canvassing in their area.
Andrew Bucher, co-founder and veterinary director at Medic Animal.
He said: “The way a country treats its animals is a real barometer of a caring society so we are proud to support Cats Protection’s Cat Manifesto.
“We’re reminding all cat owners that cats need them to speak out on their behalf. Read the policies – they all relate to making our country a kinder place – for pets and people.”
Their policies include issues on education, housing, public safety and immigration.
As the electioneering slides from mayhem into miaow-hem, anything could happen. You can find out more at
