A young woman who was bullied as a child and called a “monster” in her youth after an accident has spoken out about the accident and her subsequent long term recovery.
When Yasmine Butler, now 22, was just seven years she was accidentally hit in the cheek with a metal toy by a pal, which sparked a rare syndrome that saw the bones on the left side of her face crumble.
Yasmine ended up with half her face missing after a rare neurocutaneous syndrome meant her bones failed to form properly – leaving her without cheek bones on her left side.
But now, after seven rounds of reconstructive surgeries and regular filler injections, the shop worker, from Hastings, West Sussex, can finally face looking at herself in a mirror.
