The stunt plane was taking part in a dual display at CarFest at Oulton Park Circuit. It is not clear what led to the accident and emergency services are still trying to establish whether anyone has been injured as a result. Witnesses described an “eerie” silence as the crowds watched the Gnat jet drop from the sky. BBC presenter Chris Evans, who founded the event, described the incident as “serious”.
