A schoolboy has become the youngest councillor in the UK – at just 18-years-old.
Last week, teenager Patrick Wilkinson, fought off competition from a seasoned campaigner 47 years his senior to clinch a by-election and become a councillor just weeks after his birthday.
Councillor Wilkinson believes his tender years are a strength, rather than a hindrance, and is looking forward to serving on Withernsea Town Council, East Yorks.
“Everyone has been very positive about my age,” he said.
“There was only one councillor under 45 years on the council, so I think people wanted someone with a new outlook.”
