Bird breeders across the UK say this year has seen a sharp rise in the number of people wanting a roast goose instead of turkey for Christmas.
They say the reason for the increase is the arrival of two new characters on The Archers – brothers Rex and Toby Fair brother.
The siblings are goose farmers on the long running Radio 4 series and have ruffled a few feathers by being in competition with the Grundy family’s turkey business.
Real-life goose farmers in Britain say the ‘Archers Effect’ has boosted business – with a spike in early sales.
The reason for the sudden interest in geese was first spotted by farmer Judith Dryden, 57, of Murton Moor Farm in County Durham.
