The adorable Shetland pony that led police on hilarious chases and escaped four times has been caught – and put down.
The adorable pony, affectionately named the Shetland Shergar, won the hearts of the nation after the video emerged of him leading police on a rather unusual car chase.
But after escaping one too many times, the cute pony ran away from police and into a nearby slurry pit.
Vets have now put him down to prevent him from a distressing death after inhaling the slurry in Charlwood, Surrey.
A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “A chestnut Shetland pony was reported running loose on Jan 28 at 11.50am in Partridge Lane, Newdigate.
