A 92-year-old man ended up on a 70mph-limit dual carriageway in his mobility scooter after taking a wrong turn.
The flat-cap wearing pensioner was spotted by a passing motorist in a “very confused” state on the busy A2011 near Crawley, West Sussex.
The motorist pulled over to help the man who was eventually rescued by local police after the alarm was raised at midday on Friday.
As the unnamed OAP recovered from his ordeal at home, Pc Katie Breeds, of Sussex Police, said: “He was very confused and really didn’t know where he was.
“We sat him in the back of our police car and waited for a colleague in a van to collect the mobility scooter and then we delivered scooter and driver back home to his warden-assisted accommodation in Crawley.”
