Dozens of schoolchildren and their teachers were rescued from a beach after getting trapped by the tide – and using their mobile phones as beacons.
The group of 34 kids and two adults were on a coastal walk when the rising tide cut them off from the shore and they had to be rescued by lifeboat crews.
They became stranded during a coastal walk along St Margaret’s Bay and Dover Harbour in Kent on Monday night.
Most of the children, who were from London, were rescued at around 9.30pm, but five youngsters were unaccounted for and a rescue crew had to search the coastline before eventually finding them.
