The UK Government will help fly the flag for Scottish food and drink at the Royal Highland Show this week.
For the first time it will have its own stand highlighting Scottish produce and the Westminster government’s role north of the border.
Scottish Secretary David Mundell will host an event tomorrow to showcase Scottish artisan gins.
Sales of British gin contribute £1.76billion to the economy, and about 70% per of the country’s gin is made in Scotland.
Tory frontbencher Mr Mundell said: “I am very pleased that the UK Government will be represented at the Royal Highland Show this year, the biggest event of the Scottish agricultural calendar.
“Farming, agriculture and other rural businesses are a key part of Scotland’s economy, worth more than £1billion a year.
“The show is an important opportunity for them to show off their products and do business.”
He and Scotland Office minister Lord Dunlop will also tour the show, meeting industry leaders and businesses.
