You turn away for a minute to pour yourself a Scotch – and all of a sudden Trump’s gone from defeat to victory.
OK, maybe that’s a stretch, but the momentum has shifted, the election is in flux.
Donald Trump has resurged. From being practically finished just hours ago, he is now back in the race.
And things are starting to go his way.
Florida, Ohio and Virginia could all go Republican. New Hampshire is a toss-up.
Somehow – just like in the primaries – The Donald is making the impossible possible.
He has not won yet, of course. Clinton is still the odds on favourite to win.
It is worth remembering – for any casual observer – that states like California, worth a whopping 55 Electoral College votes, will not be called till much later, and always vote Democrat.
Yet there is no doubt this contest is now much closer than Clinton or her campaign would like.
Many people were dismissive of Trump’s campaign efforts.
He lacked the funding and the organisation of his more formidable opponent.
But white-collar voters are coming out in their droves for Trump.
They have certainly given him a fighting chance – at least more than most people expected.
Time for another drink, perhaps.
