Donald Trump is the next President of the United States.
After a remarkable campaign, the tycoon-turned-reality TV star will now be the leader of the free world.
He secured the presidential seat with a narrow victory in the hotly disputed state of Pennsylvania.
Mr Trump, who has never held elected office, defeated former Secretary of State and New York Senator Hilary Clinton, who was running for the Democrats.
The result comes at the end of a remarkable campaign, which began with the real estate mogul a rank outsider among establishment Republicans.
But, with a mixture of controversy and bluster, he blew away his internal opponents to secure the nomination, albeit with much internal rancour.
The Trump campaign, despite being marred by a series of controversies, resurged in the final days of the campaign after it emerged the FBI was reopening its investigation into Ms Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time in the State Department.
The original decision by the bureau – that she had done nothing wrong – was reconfirmed on Sunday.
Mr Trump, who was facing an uphill battle to win the White House, clinched several key swing states, including Florida and Ohio, which were previously Democrat.
Ms Clinton’s party also failed to do as well as expected in both the House and Senate races, where it had been thought they could make gains.
Mr Trump will be the 45th President of the United States, succeeding Barack Obama, who was first elected in 2008.
