A former north-east student on the run accused of murdering his colleague has changed his Facebook profile picture.
Harris Binotti fled the city of Rangoon at the weekend after his colleague Gary Ferguson was found dead in his flat.
It is alleged the two men had been out drinking when a fight broke out outside Binotti’s flat in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr Ferguson’s Thai wife found him with head and chest wounds lying in Binotti’s flat on Sunday after he failed to return home.
Binotti, a former Robert Gordon University student, was born in France before growing up in Dumfries. He lived in Aberdeen when he attended at the university between 2010 and 2013.
Burma’s ministry of information said in a statement that Binotti had left the country the day before the discovery of Mr Ferguson’s body.
It’s understood that Binotti took a flight to neighbouring Thailand through Thai Airways on Saturday night.
Binotti hasn’t been seen since that flight, however he is understood to have updated his social media profile yesterday.
A police officer in Rangoon said: “At the time they were drinking together.
“They were talking and fighting.”
The pair taught English at the Horizon International School in Rangoon together.
A school spokesman said: “We don’t know exactly what happened.
“Mr Binotti is now missing and there is an investigation.
“We send our condolences to Mr Ferguson’s family.”
Binotti had only spent three months at the International school, meanwhile Mr Ferguson had been there for about a year.
An elderly neighbour of Binotti said: “I heard their cries, saying ‘go, go’.
“I heard them throwing things, I think it happened around 4am.”
Sami Poole, who used to work with Binotti, said: “I would be amazed if he had hurt anyone.
“Something has clearly went wrong but anyone who knows Harris will know he is not a violent guy.”
