April 2001:

April 2005:
The tycoon’s scouts are sent to Scotland to look at sites for a new golf course.
October 2005:
First minister Jack McConnell visits the property mogul in New York and is told a Scottish venture is “possible”.
January 2006:
The Press and Journal reveals behind-the-scenes talks with Aberdeenshire Council officials about the plans for a two-course resort.
March 2006:
Details of “the greatest golf course anywhere in the world” are revealed – delighting business chiefs and angering green groups.
April 2006:
Mr Trump visits the north-east but threatens to pull the plug over an offshore windfarm proposal.
September 2007:
Aberdeenshire Council’s planners back the scheme, saying it was an opportunity that “must be grasped”,
November 2007:
Infrastructure services committee chair Martin Ford uses his casting vote to reject the plans.
December 2007:
The Scottish Government calls in the application, claiming the proposals are of national significance.
June 2008:
Mr Trump gives evidence on day one of a public inquiry.
November 2008
The Scottish government grants outline permission.
October 2009
Nairn-based Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton joins long-running fight over the threat to forcible evict residents near the course, accusing Mr Trump of a “21st-century clearance” attempt.
June 2011
A documentary by critics – You’ve Been Trumped – claims to show “the truth” about the project. A month later it gets full planning permission.
December 2011
Mr Trump says Alex Salmond is “hell bent” on destroying Scotland and demands a public inquiry into the wind farm.
July 2012
The property magnate tees off the first round at the new resort alongside former Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie.
March 2013
Mr Trump says he will ditch further development after a legal bid against the windfarm fails. Plans for a second course have since been revived.
October 2015
Robert Gordon University strips Mr Trump of an honorary degree over his call for all Moslems to be banned from the US.
