The gunman who shot the Russian ambassador dead was a police officer who worked in Ankara, Turkish security sources have said.
Local media have posted images from a police yearbook understood to be the gunman in full police uniform – naming him as 22-year-old Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş.
Pictures from Ambassador Andrei Karlov’s speech showed the gunman standing just a few metres behind., smartly dressed in suit and tie.
But officials have said he was not on duty at the time of the shooting.
After he shot the ambassador, a video showed the attacker shouting: “Don’t forget Aleppo, don’t forget Syria!”
Another photograph showed four people including what appeared to be the ambassador lying on the floor.
Turkish officials confirmed the gunman has been ‘neutralised’ soon after the attack.
