A giraffe in South Africa has died after it was hit on the head by an overpass whilst being transported in an open air truck.
It is reported that two giraffes were being transported on a highway in Pretoria when one collided with the bridge.
Pictures of the incident have appeared on social media from shocked drivers.
The owner of the giraffe confirmed to local media that the animal had died and allegedly suggested the giraffe had craned its neck leading to it colliding with the bridge.
Rick Allan, of the SPCA told the local news in Johannesburg: “All we can ascertain at this stage is severe head trauma. We are continuing our investigation with the view to possibly lay criminal charges against those responsible.”
The tragedy has a striking resemblance to a scene in The Hangover Part III where Alan, played by Zach Galifianakis, makes the same mistake as the owner of the South African giraffe.
