The trailer for one of the most anticipated films of 2015 – and perhaps the 2010s – has landed.

An 88-second teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been unveiled online.

The reboot of the mega-franchise by director J.J.Abrams – the man behind the most recent Star Trek films – will hit UK screens on December 18 2015.

Fans of the original Star Wars trilogy may get a slight chill seeing the Hollywood filmmaker’s trademark visual flair stalking Hans Solo’s ship, the Millennium Falcon, and swooping across what looks like Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine.

The trailer also debuted a cross-shaped light-saber being wielded by a new and rather dark-sounding character.
