A Manchester mother and her seven-month-old child are believed to have been on board the doomed Germanwings flight when it crashed into the French Alps yesterday morning.
Marina Bandres Lopez-Belio, 37, and her baby are believed to have been two of the 150 people that are feared to have died in yesterday’s catastrophe.
The mother has been reported to be Spanish but living in Manchester.
She had been in Jaca in the Pyrenees to attend the funeral of her uncle, it is understood.
It is understood that the mother took the flight to Dusseldorf from Barcelona when she could not get a direct flight back to Manchester.
Tributes were paid on Facebook by a college that she attended in Spain. The statement, translated from Spanish, read: “Our most sincere condolences to the family of Marina Bandres Lopez-Belio.
“Some of the teachers of the school saw her grow in our classrooms and have great memories of her. A big hug to all the family”.
Last night Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond admitted that it was “sadly likely” that British nationals would be found to have been on board the doomed Airbus A320 flight.
German, Spanish, Australian, Colombian, Belgian, Danish, Turkish and Australian nationals are all also thought to have been passengers on board the plane.
