The Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has announced that at least three Britons were among the 150 people killed when the doomed Germanwings flight crashed into the French Alps yesterday morning.
Mr Hammond also said that the number could unfortunately keep rising as investigations continue.
Amongst those on board the Airbus A320 were 16 school children and two teachers on a school trip from altern Am See in Germany.
Investigations into the disaster have so far not determined a cause of the crash, which took place after the plane descended more than 30,000 feet in less than 10 minutes.
Those at the scene of the crash combing through the debris have managed to locate one of the plane’s black boxes.
Images released last night from emergency crews at the scene of the crash showed that the plane had completely disintegrated, with the largest pieces identifiable being only about the size of a small car.
It is reported that none of the 144 passengers and six crew survived the plane crash.
