Germanwings crash pilots named

Andreas Lubitz, 28, "intentionally" crashed the Airbus A320.

The co-pilot of the doomed Germanwings plane has been named as Andreas Lubitz, a German man from the Rhineland area.

The captain was named as “Patrick S”, a dad of two with over ten years of flying experience.

Both the pilot and co-pilot were confirmed to be of German nationality without any terrorist links.

When asked about his ethnicity or religion at a live news conference, Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin said: “I don’t think that’s where the answer to this lies.”

He went on to say that during the final ten minutes before the crash co-pilot Mr Lubitz was definitely alone inside the cockpit, and that the families of the victims have all been informed of this.

Mr Robin continued, saying that the victims only knew what was happening to the plane just before it smashed into the French Alps, killing everyone on board.

Mr Robin said: “He took this action, for reasons we still don’t know why.

“We can only deduce he destroyed the plane. He voluntarily allowed the plane to lose altitude.

“I think the victims only realised at the last moments because on the recording you only hear the screams on the last moments.”
