Kuchinoerabu island had to be evacuated this morning after Mount Shindake erupted.
More than 100 people had to leave the southern Japanese island as the volcano sent thick black smoke through the air.
It has been reported that no one has been harmed during the eruption which comes just eight months after Mount Ontake, in central Japan erupted, causing 57 deaths.
This is the second time in a year Mount Shindake has erupted. Last August, the volcano, located about 650 metres above sea level blew its top for the first time since 1980.
Japan has active volcanoes throughout the country, which has led the authorities in Japan to be more cautious with the volcanic activity.
In the past month, they closed a popular tourist spot in Japan, a hot spring near the capital of Tokyo, as they feared that Mount Hakone would erupt.
