Thai police have confirmed that an explosion in Bangkok which has claimed multiple lives, was caused by a bomb.

Police spokesman Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri told Agence France-Presse news agency: “I can confirm it was a bomb, we can’t tell which kind yet, we are checking.”
Local media are reporting twelve dead and 20 injured.
The attack happened near the Erawan Shrine in the capital’s central Chidlom district.
Social media shows scenes of chaos, and body parts scattered everywhere.
