A mother has been jailed for killing her daughter by placing her in a microwave.
Ka Yang, from California, was convicted of first-degree murder and assault for killing her seven week old daughter Mirabelle Thao-Lo.
The 34-year-old mother put her daughter in the microwave for up to five minutes in 2011.
The child suffered fatal thermal injuries and burns on 60 percent of her body, according to prosecutors.
Yang’s claimed she had an epileptic seizure and did not know what she was doing at the time.
She told investigators she blacked out and awoke to find the baby injured next to a space heater, however, she later acknowledged that she lied and said she might have a split personality, the affidavit said.
The judge at Sacramento County Superior Court in California sentenced Yang to serve 26 years to life in prison.
