The crane came down in central New York

One person is dead and two are seriously injured after a crane collapsed in New York City, emergency services said.

The crane landed across several parked cars, smashing their roofs, in the Tribeca neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan.

The collapsed metal lattice landed across a road junction and stretched much of a block.

Robert Harold said he also saw a person lying motionless in the street.
