A takeaway owner has spoken of how he “took away the power” of an armed robber who walked into his shop by simply ignoring him.
Said Ahmed of Christchurch, New Zealand, barely acknowledged the masked gunman as he demanded cash in his Egyptian Kebab House.
Mr Ahmed was serving a customer when the robber turned up at his shop and threatened him with the gun.
But instead of clearing out his till, the shopkeeper decided to ‘take away the power’ from the intruder.
He carried on with his business and even finished serving the counter. Then he calmly turned around and walked away, even appearing to smile in the video footage.
He told the Guardian: “The man wanted to frighten me and I decided he couldn’t do that.
“I passed the customer his food because I wanted him to leave the shop and not be in any danger.”
He added: “The robber was very confused by my behaviour. He wanted to scare me but I wasn’t scared, so I took away his power.”
