A man has driven a car packed with gas cylinders into a Sydney police station in a reported terrorist terrorist attack.
Local media has reported that the man later set himself on fire in the car park of Merrylands police station.
Australian police are believed to have apprehended the suspect, who is yet to be identified.
Firefighters and police are currently on the scene in the suburb, 15 kilometres west of Sydney.
A witness, who did not want to be named, told AAP several police squads and emergency crews have surrounded the building and numerous people saw a figure being taken away from the scene on a stretcher.
An ambulance was also seen leaving the scene.

“The perimeter remains in place as a precaution while officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit attend and examine the vehicle,” police said in a statement.
“The circumstances regarding the incident are in the early stages of being confirmed and no further details are available at this time.”
Witnesses have reported a strong burning smell.
ABC News says the man, who suffered burns during the attack, is known by police.
