This will give us an excellent opportunity in the North-east of Scotland.
The North-east economy is much more closely tied to the EU market place than just about any other economy in the UK.
The economic risk to us is Brexit and leaving the single market, because the UK Government is clueless about the direction we’re going in.
I think the Scottish economy will stand up extremely well, like other small EU countries. This is why we need independence – so we don’t see £300 billion in oil revenues getting siphoned off to the Westminster exchequer and precious little back.
Communities in the North-east will see the advantages of Scotland taking control of these measures.
For example, the House of Lords last week was awash with rumours Theresa May was proposing to trade away Scottish fishing in a Brexit deal remaining in the EU.
It’s ludicrous to suggest we don’t have a mandate for a second referendum.
The SNP put this referendum in the manifesto for the election that took place last year in Scotland and that will be tested in the Scottish Parliament.
We were polling 28% in favour of independence in 2012 the first time around, which is an interesting contrast with 48% support now.
The timing is crucial, as a referendum should take place while Scotland has the ability to stay within the EU single market.
The Scottish Government will be publishing a white paper on these matters, which will be in stark contrast to the EU referendum where the Brexit side published nothing.
