Willie Miller: Scotland call-up Devlin having fine season with Aberdeen and was immense against Hibs
ByWillie Miller
Mikey Devlin was outstanding on Friday in the 1-0 win at Pittodrie.
He’s having a cracking season.
Devlin’s looked solid alongside Scott McKenna and their relationship on the field seems to be flourishing.
There was a slight hiccup in the first half at Rugby Park a couple of weekends ago when the pair came up against the experience of Kris Boyd.
However, against Hibs, Devlin, pictured, stopped the Edinburgh team’s attacks single-handedly countless times.
Just as things looked dangerous and the final pass to cut the Reds apart opened up, Devlin would step out, win the ball, snuffing out the danger and putting the Pittodrie men back on the front foot.
The former Hamilton captain appears to be the Dons’ leader at the back.
He keeps his team-mates in sync and is also adept at dropping back and winning a header when needed.
Despite the dreadful wind on Friday, he was reading the flight of the ball perfectly every time.
When Devlin does make a mistake, you can see how he channels his anger at himself into the next challenge.
Devlin, alongside McKenna, both individually and as a unit, can be Scotland’s centre-back pairing during the international break.
