Aberdeen had six players missing through injury for the win over Motherwell – but new signings Stephen Gleeson and Chris Forrester, pictured, didn’t feature.
Both will have hoped for more game-time but when I have seen them I don’t think they can have too many complaints about not starting.
With Saturday’s game being a physical one, it suited the Dons to play Dominic Ball ahead of Gleeson and Forrester.
Having joined the club in the summer, they will want to make their mark and the only way to do that is by impressing Derek McInnes and getting time on the pitch.
Over the season, both players will play their part.
Forrester was signed for £200,000 in the summer but hasn’t really got going yet. He has only started one game and was taken off at half-time.
Gleeson has shown more and started the first five league games.
It’s down to the players to show that they should start regularly and they haven’t managed to do that yet.
But they could do it in the future.
From McInnes’ point of view, he will be pleased with the options he has in midfield.
And when players get the opportunity they need to take it to stay in the team.
