Willie Miller: Gerrard must see Celtic are ‘class above’ Rangers By Willie Miller September 3 2018, 2:23 pm September 3 2018, 2:23 pm Share Willie Miller: Gerrard must see Celtic are ‘class above’ Rangers Share via Facebook Twitter Whatsapp Messenger Linkedin Email Post link https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/opinion/columnists/3625863/gerrard-must-see-hoops-are-class-above/ Copy Link Rangers manager Steven Gerrard. There’s no doubt Celtic were, in the words of Steven Gerrard after Rangers faced Aberdeen, “a class above” in yesterday’s Old Firm derby. Looking back on that statement Gerrard made in the Granite City after a 1-1 draw with the Dons, it wasn’t appropriate. I thought at the time it could come back to haunt him and it has. If he thought the Gers were a class above the Dons then he will have left Parkhead thinking the Hoops are a class above his side. It surprised me because I thought the Govan team would push the Hoops more. But Gerrard, pictured, employed defensive tactics, which is a statement from the Ibrox boss he feels Rangers aren’t ready to take them on. It was 1-0, but for goalkeeper Allan McGregor and the woodwork it could have been 4-0 or 5-0 to Celtic. Gerrard has splashed the cash and brought in lots of new players. Rangers have done well in Europe, reaching the group stage of the Europa League after getting through four qualifying rounds. But they have only taken five points from four Premiership games and on the evidence of the derby they are still some way behind rivals Celtic.
